The restaurant Good Friends in Kantstaße, not far from the famous boulevard Kurfürstendamm, stands for authentic Chinese cuisine and is known throughout Berlin. Many of the dishes come from the canton cuisine, where meat and fish are prepared sweet and sour. Good Friends has gained fame through a famous Berliner, Tim Raue, star chef himself. If Raue is looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, he drives to the restaurant Kantstraße/corner Schlüterstraße and orders silk tofu or herb chicken. The atmosphere in the restaurant is surprisingly simple, lively and down-to-earth. Natural stone walls, simple tables and chairs remind the visitor of a large canteen. Busy waiters welcome visitors as they enter the dining room.
In Good Friends there are always many Chinese guests who feel well looked after here and feel like home. After all Good Friends serves sea cucumber, jellyfish, soups with abalone and shark fins. For tourists with a European taste, the restaurant has a weakened menu with dishes such as baked Wan-Tan, Peking soup, beef in oyster sauce, curry with chicken and duck sweet and sour.
The fish menu includes sea bass, scallops, eel and squid. Roasted lobster can be prepared on request. Vegetarian dishes are also offered, including pak-choi, fresh green asparagus and bean sprouts. As a guest, however, you are overwhelmed by the several hundred dishes on the menu and, at least during your first visits to Good Friends, it takes a long time to decide. On the other hand, despite the size of the restaurant and the fact that seats are almost always booked out in the evenings, the food is prepared surprisingly quickly.
