Bakery Siebert on Prenzlauer Berg’s Schönfließer Straße is a fixture for great bread and high-class other baked delights. Gustav Siebert opened his shop in the very same place where it is today in 1906. There is usually a long waiting line in front of the small shop. The people are waiting patiently for their turn to be served by the friendly staff. Waiting at Bakery Siebert is nothing new for the locals.
As a real family-run business, the bakery Siebert produces everything traditionally by hand, following old traditions of the trade. They sell a large variety of bread and bread rolls and there is no shortage either of pastries. The bread variety is enormous and includes wholegrain, rye, wheat or brown breads. You can also get there various sandwiches and fresh coffee. Especially recommendable are their cakes and pastries. Have a slice of their apple cake “Apfel mit Decke” or plum cake with sprinkles – they taste like in the good old days and will make your mouth water. Many of their cakes follow still original family recipes. For special events like Christmas, Easter or New Year’s, the Sieberts offer seasonal specials – their Berliners (called “Pfannkuchen” in Berlin) are among the best in town. For New Year’s orders of up to 6.000 Berliners are not unheard of.
Bakery Sieberts has already won a lot of awards for their baking art. in 2013 the bakery was elected “Best Bakery in Germany” by the magazine Feinschmecker.
