Being located close to Reichtag directly on the banks of the Spree, the StäV is a natural point of call for politicians and diplomats. Some known media figures like Thomas Gottschalk also do like to drop in.
The atmosphere and company are in fact more important than the food when you decide to go to this cult location. However, if you do feel hungry, the menu will treat you with some honest, down-to-Earth food from the Rhineland, like “Himmel un Ääd)Bei einem Besuch der Kult-Location steht vielmehr das gesellige Beisammensein, als das Essen im Vordergrund. Wer dennoch ein Grummeln im Magen verspürt, findet auf der Karte viele deftige rheinländische Spezialitäten wie “Himmel un Ääd”, Rhineland Sauerbraten or “Kölsche Hämmchen” (Eisbein with Sauerkraut and fried potatoes). Add to that some lighter classics like various tartes flambées, soups and salads.
By the way, the founders of the StäV tended politicians gastronomically for over 25 years in the former German capital Bonn. That’s why the Rhineland way also is big in Berlin with all its lovable details with carnival parties and genuine Cologne Gaffel Kölsch, a typical beer of Cologne.
