Close to the subway station Osloer Straße you can find the new deli Kater & Goldfisch that offers homemade cakes, Italian antipasti and self-made Pastrami. The urban interior could also be part of any hipster place in Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg or Prenzlauer Berg, but it just proves that Berlin-Wedding is one of the up-and-coming neighborhoods of the capital.
The front part is filled with an open bar and kitchen as well as many seating options of randomly mixed wooden furniture. The counter displays the various homemade cakes as well as the selected Italian antipasti. The highlight of Kater & Goldfisch though is the lounge area in the rear end. The pitch black brick wall is decorated with golden frames and you sit on panel furniture that’s decorated with many colorful pillows in all shapes and sizes. If the weather is good you can also sit outside in the patio at Uferstraße where beer table sets and detached tables are waiting for you.
The food is extremely good and of high quality, too. Beside the selected Italian antipasti they also put Pastrami on their menu, which undergoes a complex way of production and is homemade, too, and served in a sandwich with mustard and – also – homemade pickles. They also serve tasty breakfast variations and fresh soups.
Besides a wide range of soft drinks and hot beverages (like self-made hot chocolate) you can also order alcoholic drinks and cocktails like a Moscow Mule.
So far Kater & Goldfisch is still an insiders’ tip, reassuring that Berlin-Wedding definitely is one of Berlin’s districts to keep an eye on.
