The simple, but colorful, Chutnify restaurant in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg offers South Indian street food and exudes a touch of holiday feeling. The interior of the restaurant is not typical Indian as you won’t find any golden Buddhas or elephant statues at the door.
Mainly dosas, the typical Indian rice crêpes, with spicy coconut and mint chutneys are served here. The thin crispy pancakes are prepared on a round cast iron plate and typically consist of coconut, sometimes also of tomatoes, mint or other ingredients. In addition to the simple form numerous dosa variations exist. Among the most famous of them is Masala Dosa, served with a spicy potato filling. At Chutnify the dosas are traditionally available as Masala or Cheese Masala, but also in a veggi version or even as Goat Pork Dosa or Tandoori Chicken. The dosas in Chutnify cost around eight Euros. At lunchtime they also offer a lunch menu.
Dosas are usually served with sambar (a sauce based on lentils and tamarind) and chutney, green and piquant with mint and fruity and sweet with tomatoes and mango. The chutney jams at Chutnify are freshly made every day. Here the use of organic products is of great importance. On the menu you will find vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan dishes. Since all dishes are prepared fresh to order the waiting time can be a little longer.
In the evening the little restaurant is usually crowded. During summer there are colorful tables and chairs on the street.
