The snack bar W-Der Imbiss in the middle of Berlin, at Kastanienallee in Berlin-Mitte, is a rather special place for fans of the Indian cuisine. To be exact: W-Der Imbiss is, as the name suggests, more a snack bar than a restaurant and the kitchen is a successful Indo-Mex-Cal-Ital mix, meaning, this is where the Indian cuisine mixes with Mexican, Californian and Italian influences.
In addition to a handful of reinterpreted Indian curries or buddah bowls you will also find very special combinations on the menu, such as the Naan pizzas. Classic Indian Naan bread is the basis for the exceptional combinations. The Jewish Naan is available with cream fraiche, smoked salmon, red onion, capers, caviar or dill. The Green Goddess Naan on the other hand offers a topping of guacamole, rocket, dried tomatoes and chili. Also on the menu and no less exceptional for an Indian restaurant: wraps and rolls. Soups and salads as well as sweet desserts complete the offer.
Just as unusual as the kitchen is the decor. From the outside somewhat unimpressive, the atmosphere inside adapts to the snack bar character, but is nevertheless comfortable. Indian trash? No way! Hawaiian Tiki figures hang on African patterns on the walls and bamboo lamps hang down from the ceiling. There are only a few seats, but that comforts the fast food charm of the small bar. In the summer you can also find a place on the sidewalk on the lively Kastanienallee. In winter you can sit down for a while at the window front from where you can still see the hustle of the street in front of you.
W-Der Imbiss promises a surprising taste explosion and is another example of the innovative and versatile culinary offer of the capital. If you do not stick to tradition and are a fan of Indian cuisine, do not miss this place.
