Vale un Peccato

Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf

Literally worth a sin: Vale un Peccato in Wilmersdorf offers authentic trattoria cuisine, far removed from Berlin tourism and close to how Italians themselves eat. Sicilian signature, Venetian host, and a terrace where you can easily forget the hustle and bustle of Berlin.

Vale un Peccato: When Wilmersdorf briefly smells like Italy

The name says it all. “Vale un Peccato” translates to “worth a sin,” and anyone who has eaten here once immediately understands why. Manager Renato Zorzi has been delighting his guests for over four decades with dishes of upscale Italian cuisine. He took over the restaurant in 2019. As a host born in Veneto and raised in Piedmont, he understands how to present the refinement of good food. Together with chef Gaetano Bartoluccio, whose home is Sicily, they create a Northern Italian-Sicilian cuisine rarely found in Berlin. Zorzi learned the intricacies of his craft from the best chefs in Northern Italy and Switzerland. You can taste it.

The menu features dishes such as fish soup, grilled calamaretti on arugula, linguine scampi, and beef fillet with Barolo sauce and regional vegetables. Also available are homemade pasta, stuffed potato pasta with spinach and cream cheese, and tortellini in butter-sage sauce. For those who prefer classics: thin, crispy pasta and pizza are also a staple. The chef’s changing creations are gladly presented to guests personally.

Regulars’ Restaurant with Terrace and Soul

The antipasti menu features classic creations, with ingredients sourced from the chef’s small garden behind the restaurant in summer and autumn. The restaurant focuses on seasonal and regional produce, because freshness and quality should be discernible in every dish. So far, so consistent. As soon as temperatures allow, Vale un Peccato opens its large, green terrace, which, shielded from the hustle and bustle of Berlin, invites guests to a relaxed summer evening with delicious Italian cuisine. Inside, a rustic ambiance and fireplace light make you hardly want to leave.

Regular guests say a visit to Vale un Peccato is like a short trip to Italy. Indeed, the establishment is known for most guests being regulars whom the staff knows. However, newcomers are by no means received with less warmth. Note: Reservations are practically mandatory, but if you just drop by, the friendly team will still try to find you a seat. Vale un Peccato is located at Aßmannshauser Straße 26 and is open daily from 16:00.
