The capital restaurant Gendarmerie is located in the former banking building on Behrenstraße, right next to Gendarmenmarkt, the middle of the historical center of Berlin. Guests can expect a traditional German cuisine with creative accents.
As soon as you enter the chic restaurant, the “Gendarm” greets you, a lead-coated wooden figure specially made for the Gendarmerie. In the restaurant itself is the largest wooden relief in the world, “Bacchanal”, also created by artist Jean-Yves Klein for the Gendarmerie. The decor of the restaurant combines a stylish ambience with a modern flair. In addition to the dark wooden tables and matching dark brown leather armchairs, color accents are set in pink and orange on the walls. There is much focus on the indirect most pleasant lighting, even romantic candlelight dinners can take place in the gendarmerie.
The menu includes creative German dishes with international influences such as calf’s liver in Calvadosjus, goose-liver with fig-chutney, milk-claw-cut with oranges, capers and butter, but also creative interpretations of Berlin classics such as Königsberger meat balls in champagne cream with beetroot, potatoes and capers, Entrecôte of the Brandenburg beef cattle or the Berlin currywurst with homemade sauce and french fries. For dessert, crème brûlée, Pavlova or Marquise au Chocolat are served in the Gendarmerie.
Top10 Berlin Tip: At noon there is the daily changing 3-course menu for 15 euros! In summer the Gendarmerie offers a beautiful sun terrace with a view on Gendarmenmarkt.
