Kreuzberg
Turkish cuisine is enormously diverse in Berlin: One of the pioneers of Turkish cuisine are the Hasır restaurants, which were among the first to offer more than kebab. Nowadays they are represented not only in Kreuzberg, but also in Schöneberg, Wilmersdorf, Mitte and even Spandau. AdalbertstraÃe in Kreuzberg is home to a well-established Turkish restaurant that has been here for more than 20 years and has many fans in the neighbourhood. Members of the well-known Berlin breakdance comcany Flying Steps sometimes relax here after exhausting rehearsals.
The interior in the older of the two restaurants is a bit outdated, yet tastefully furnished in Turkish style, and very cosy and inviting. A few meters away there is a newer Hasır restaurant. Both stand for authentic Turkish cuisine, with many vegetable dishes, soups, various starters, the small mezze and meat dishes. Of course you there is also a kebab, if you like. The original Hasır kebab is produced according to a family recipe in their own butcher’s shop. If you still have some room in your stomach after an extensive meal, you should also try the Turkish desserts, which are certainly rich in calories, but also particularly tasty. At Hasır, you can enjoy Turkish cuisine as an extensive menu, but you can also meet there to have a chat and a hot cup of Turkish tea, you will always feel welcome here.
Like Kreuzberg itself, the audience is colourful and diverse and is not restricted to any age group. The atmosphere and the waiters are relaxed and very friendly. Who is on the way in the AdalbertstraÃe, should plan a visit in the Hasır.
