Kreuzberg

The Michelin-starred restaurant Nobelhart & Schmutzig in Kreuzberg proclaims itself "brutally local" and strictly serves regional cuisine.

The Nobelhart & Schmutzig in Friedrichstrasse in Kreuzberg is known for its strictly regional cuisine. Owner and host Billy Wagner is one of the best and most famous sommeliers in Germany and wants to introduce his guests to the diversity of the region in and around Berlin in a brutally local way. Brutally local not only means that high-quality products from Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Baltic Sea are used for the preparation of seasonal dishes, but that in general only products with strictly regional references are used. The kitchen dispenses entirely with spices such as pepper and cinnamon or other components such as chocolate or tuna.

Most people eat at the U-shaped counter, which is built around the kitchen. Another large table at the back of the restaurant also accommodates larger groups of up to 14 people. Nobelhart & Schmutzig always serves a 10-course menu. Again, the concept of “brutally local” becomes obvious, because here is eaten, what is served by the kitchen team around Michelin-starred chef Micha Schäfer. There are no deviating variations to the menu, but incompatibilities and vegetarian or vegan options are taken into account in advance.

Nobelhart & Schmutzig is difficult to compare to other gourmet restaurants, not only because of its unusual design. The open service, the incredible selection of wines and the particularly sociable atmosphere make a visit to Nobelhart & Schmutzig a very special experience.
