The Zitronencafé (Lemon Café) is located in a beautiful orangery in the western part of the Körnerpark. The sun terrace in front of the orangery is elevated and surrounded by stone staircases. Between perennials and potted plants, guests have a direct view of the park.
The idyllic Körnerpark alone is worth a visit. It seems to be a park belonging to a castle, but it was actually built in 1912 – 1916 in a former gravel pit. The owner, Franz Körner, made this a present to the former town of Rixdorf, hence the name Körnerpark. The 3.6 hectare park is symmetrical and shows neo-baroque design elements. In the eastern part, virtually opposite the café, there is a water staircase that leads the water into a small pool in steps. Körnerpark has been a garden monument since 1984. In 2003, the Green Space Authority in Berlin-Neukölln was awarded the Gustav Meyer Prize for its reconstruction.
The café itself is quite small, it’s appeal mainly derives from windows inside. It offers self-service breakfast, lunch and in the afternoon coffee and cake. On the menu are fluffy banana cake, cheese cake and of course delicious lemon cake. The menu is small, but everything is tasty. Outside you sit at simple wooden chairs and wooden tables or ale-benches. The special features are the park location, the large sun terrace and the direct view of the park.
There are classic coffee specialities to drink, for the children juices and spritzers from the east German juice company Ostmost. The Zitronencafé is run by the company “eßkultur”, which also owns the KAFFEE! In Steglitz and the Café at the Jewish Museum Berlin. You can also book family celebrations or company events here. Next to the café there is a small gallery showing changing exhibitions.
