Steglitz
The traditional Thai restaurant Mai Thai is tucked away in a side street, close to Boulevard Berlin on Steglitz’ Schloßstraße. The atmosphere is authentic Thai with decorative relief work and Thai art. And also their food is authentic. The menu kindly remarks that the recipes have been adapted to suit the German palate, but of course you are free to order them with original Thai spiciness. The lunch card gives you the option to order the dishes spicy, medium spicy and extremely spicy.
If you like to tread safer ground, you should opt for some sweet and sour dish, traditionally made with pineapple and veggies. All lunch options are served with nice fragrant rice and a pleasingly hot sour-spicy soup. Their menu card is quite exhaustive and it will take you many trips to the Mai Phai to really eat through all dishes made with beef, pork, poultry, fish and sea food. The restaurant goes without the hip chic of Berlin-Mitte and trusts more in tradition. The friendly owner has told us that the restaurant has been up and running for 20 years, most guests are regulars. Since the restaurant is only equipped with seats for about 30 guests, it is recommendable to place a reservation above all if you want to dine there in the evening.
