Mitte
At Paul Möhring – Tradition & Wahnsinn (which translates as tradition & madness) on Oranienburger Straße in Mitte the soft ice cult is reinvented. In the small, stylish shop one can find extraordinary ice cream creations – and they also look just as good as they taste. The ice cream in flavors like vanilla, chocolate or chocolate vanilla is produced daily, fresh and directly on the spot. The highlight, however, are the toppings, which can be combined wildly and give the ice a special touch. In addition to classics such as chocolate drops or Marshmallows, you can also get whiskey pickled walnuts, salt sticks or some fiery-spicy sauce.
You can choose from Paul Möhring’s already made combinations, which tastes not only incredibly well, but also have tasty names such as “Salty Dude” or “Campfire (S’more)”. In addition to the soft ice, you can always find a lactose-free, vegan variety of precipitated sorbet.
In May 2017 the store was opened in Oranienburger Straße. Owner David has put a lot of self-initiative and creativity into the design of his business. Black and white tiles on the floor, smart gray-black walls, dark wood for the seating areas on the glass front and rear of the shop, as well as a few selected pictures on the wall harmonize very well with each other. A glazed partition gives an insight into the production of the ice cream and completes the ambience.
Time and again, the story of namesake and jis grandfather in law Paul Möhring is told, who at his time created ice cream out of snow in a battered aluminum pot. Based on his original recipe, the recipe was reinterpreted and with the multitude of toppings, the good old tradition of soft ice meets with madness and incredibly good taste.
