Mitte

If you are looking for a cheerful design hotel for a smaller budget, you will find it at Gat Point Charlie, centrally situated near famous Checkpoint Charlie.

In front of the entrance of the Spanish design hotel Gat Point Charlie in Berlin-Mitte stands a somewhat grim looking tomcat in uniform. Gat comes from Catalan and means cat, the uniformed person stands for the history of the building in which the Stasi (the secret police of the GDR) used to be housed in former East Berlin.
Nothing else remindes of these times today in the three star hotel in the lower budget area.
The hotel has 140 rooms, including 16 junior suites, 12 small single rooms (10 to 12 square meters) and three triple rooms. Three rooms are barrier-free. The colors of the house are black, gray, white and a bright neon green. This color concept is repeated in all floors. Bathroom tiles for example are in each floor tiled in neon green. Only now and then, as in the hotel bar, a small red accent occurs.

This young design was created by the Spanish architectural studio Boopa in Barcelona. Remarkable are small details, which are repeated in every room, like the open cupboard looking like a curved shelf. Expensive extras such as a spa area or a gym, which would raise the price, are deliberately omitted.
The ground floor hosts an Asian restaurant, which can be reached through the hotel. Althougn not operated by the hotel itself, it is nevertheless used by many guests.

Belonging to the hotel there are bar with red curved sofas and a generous breakfast room offering all kinds of milk: almond and rice milk, soy milk, lactose-free milk and naturally low-fat and full-fat milk. You can book your breakfast directly with the overnight stay, but you doen’t have to.

In the breakfast room exhibitions from the field of photography and fine arts are often shown, changing every two months, often with landscape photographs from Catalonia. The logo of this design hotel in the Mauerstraße in the centre of Berlin is a cat’s eye.
