The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central place of the German division and is in the historical site of Bernauer Strasse. It stretches along 1.4 kilometres of the former border strip. The memorial shows the last piece of the Berlin Wall giving the real feeling of how the border fortifications developed and grew until the end of the 1980s. The exhibition offers an insight into the political and historical situation and the reasons that led to the construction of the Wall, its fall and the reunification of Germany. The exhibition also offers a political chronology linked to a social chronology, making it tangible how the brutal division of the city influenced the people.
