Just over an hour’s drive from Berlin, via the A115 and the A9 in the southwest of the capital, you will find yourself in the Hoher Fläming Nature Park. If the car allows it, you should pack bicycles or at least take your hiking boots.
The Hoher Fläming Nature Park covers an area of 800 square kilometres and has around 400 kilometres of hiking trails, 200 kilometres of cycle paths and 100 kilometres of bridle paths. The nature park centre in the old distillery in Raben is a good information point and helps with the planning of the hiking tour with advice, free information material, maps and travel guides.
If you are travelling with children, you can simply head for the Old Distillery as an excursion destination. The nature park centre is housed in the barrier-free converted building. Where schnapps (or lime) was distilled in the 19th century, you can inform yourself and relax. A pretty little kitchen garden behind the building invites you to stroll and sniff. In the distillery adults get a coffee and the children a soda and also small snacks. Directly in front of the building is a beautiful large adventure playground, which is used enthusiastically by groups of children and families. Above all the large rocker in snake form provides for thrills.
A 2 km long nature trail starts at the adventure playground, which leads through the nature reserve up to Rabenstein Castle. At listening stations you can listen into the forest. In the basement of the distillery there is a small farm shop, where you can take honey, pottery and other goods from the region home with you. If the weather is not so good, you can also take the children to the nature park exhibition in the distillery.
