The year 2000 saw the opening of the Landschaftspark Johannisthal that is to merge protection of nature, sports and recreation. It is situated between the Groß-Berliner-Damm, Hermann-Dorner-Allee and Wrightallee on the former airfield site. In the western part of the park there is a barbecue area, which can be reached via the park entrance Groß-Berliner-Damm/Hermann-Dorner Allee.
The park is divided into three zones: In the middle of the park is a 26-hectare nature reserve, surrounded by a two-kilometre promenade path. The recreational landscapes are located in three joints and the active bands with 30 natural chambers on the outer edges, in which numerous green spaces are available for sport, play and leisure.
In the southeast of the park there is a skating track, which is a meeting point for inliners and skaters from all over Berlin, as well as a beach volleyball field. ATTENTION: The park should not be confused with the much smaller Johannisthaler Park a few hundred metres to the north-west.
