The Filmrauschpalast is a Berlin cinema institution. This cinema has been housed since the early nineties in a former butcher’s shop of the Prussian army in Lehrter Straße in Berlin-Moabit. It is voluntarily run by people who have quite different jobs in real life.
It is Berlin’s only cinema with a personal announcer before the film starts. The coal-fired oven of yesteryear is still there, next to a modern central heating. When it’s cold you can cuddle up under a warm blanket in the comfy seats. In summer the Filmrauschpalast even has its own open-air cinema, a screen in the backyard.
For some years, up to three performances have been shown daily, in the meantime even matinees and new film series. The “Schlechtival”, a festival of bad films, was legendary, where quite a few tomatoes flew. There is now the annual Favorite Films Festival. One evening a month a live concert accompanied by a film matches the traditional art house program. Every now and then a blockbuster like SPECTER or MAD MAX: Fury Road is shown.
As the only cinema in Berlin Filmrausch Moabit has a giant curved screen. Scope movies are a pleasure here!
