The treetop path “Tree & Time” in Beelitz was opened in autumn 2015 on the premises of the former hospital in Beelitz and is the first treetop path in Brandenburg.
The treetop path and the entire sites will be expanded to a large recreational park with an open-air museum in the coming years. The so far 320-meter-long treetop path was built on a wood and steel construction that lies on 15 pillars. The trails are about 2.5 meters wide. The impressive landscape with the abandoned and dilapidated hospital buildings can be visited from soaring heights. About 40 different tree species have settled on the site.
Visitors reach the treetop path either by rise of the 40-meter-high observation tower or through the disability access by elevator. At the top, visitors walk through the old trees in the canopy at a height of 17 to 22 meters, thus gaining natural insights and an overview of the historic area. The treetop path leads across the former women sanatorium and opens up a wide view over the landscape of the Fläming even up to Berlin. Exciting it is also the view of a unique architecture of the sanatoriums and the historic gardens dating from the early 20th century.
In various configurations the treetop path is planned to reach a length of 1.000 meters. Part of the concept is the restoration of the gardens and parks. The treetop path is of great importance for the Fläming region in terms of sustainable tourism.
