Café at daylight, bar at night – the Luzia on Berlin-Kreuzberg’s busy Oranienstraße has been a point of call for locals and tourists alike for years.
The bar crowd is a happy mix, the room is filled with the buzz of voices. The Luzia is a big venue (easily around 250 square metres), has high ceilings and a simple, yet warm and welcoming interior on vintage 1950s furniture with lovely candle light. Ýou take your seat at one of the small tables in the room, at the bar or you stand somewhere with your drink in your hand and your group of friends leisurely talking in the room.
Popular Kreuzberg clubs like the SO36, Prince Charles or Ritter Butzke are reachable by foot, making the Luzia the best starting point for a long night of partying. The bar is so busy on some evenings that pushing your way through is your only option and the party crowd is even outside in the street looking to the inside through Luzia’s big shop windows.
Weekends see DJs working the system to make the disco room dance. The styles playes are mainly electronic music like Minimal and Deep House to Black Cracker and Vulkan Dance. The choice of drinks at the Luzia is enormous, the prices are fair. Hip barkeepers will mix you the latest in cocktails at the bar. During winter, the Luzia resounds with live music every now and then. By the way, “Luzia” means “the bringer of light”.
