The Brel situated at Savignyplatz with its view of the S-Bahn arches is a restaurant during the day and a popular bar with live music in the evenings. If you also want to enjoy the classic French bistro cuisine in the evening, a reservation is recommended, because it can happen that people are queuing up outside.
Coming from France, the concept of café conc in the 19th century was a café with music and entertainment. The Brel is named after the French singer, songwriter and “Jacques Romain Georges Brel”. However, the black piano in front of smoke-gray walls does not only stand for French chansons, but also jazz and other musical genres are to be heard.
Bar guests listen to the music enjoying a pastis, a glass of champagne or a nice cocktail. During the day around noon the Brel offers a lunch menu, a good opportunity to get an impression of the place because it is much easier to find a seat during the day.
In summer and at good weather people are sitting outside the café, even though the S-Bahn rattles past at regular intervals. Im Sommer und bei gutem Wetter sind die Plätze auf den klassischen Bistrostühlen vor dem Brel beliebt, auch wenn in regelmäßigen Abständen die S-Bahn vorbeirattert. In Winter, there is a fireplace room in the back of the Brel with a beautiful bookcase, the so-called „Separée“, in which about 30 people can find space.
