Pappelallee in Prenzlauer Berg reveals little, and Becketts Kopf reveals even less. Drawn curtains, no illuminated sign, just Samuel Beckett’s portrait on the door. Anyone standing here for the first time might briefly wonder if the bar is even open. It is.

The Concept: Quality without Scenery

The name is quickly explained: Becketts Kopf is named after the Irish playwright Samuel Beckett, and the black-and-white portrait gazing down at guests creates an unmistakable atmosphere. The menus are printed on old paperback editions of Beckett’s works. Nevertheless, the bar doesn’t take itself too seriously, as Irish hospitality is tangibly present here.

The room is small and furnished with a red leather sofa. Hand-cut ice, freshly squeezed juices, and antique glassware are standard. Furthermore, the ordering system works via ingredient selection: guests choose their preferred components, the rest is in the hands of the bartender.

Classics and Craftsmanship

Becketts Kopf celebrates classic mixology. Cocktail classics from the period between 1880 and 1910, as well as English drinks from the 1920s, are the house specialty. If you’re undecided, just ask. The bartender will ask about your preferences, dislikes, and mood before making a recommendation. Therefore, it’s worth taking that recommendation.

Becketts Kopf operates in the serious, dimly lit layer of Berlin’s bar scene, where craftsmanship and atmosphere are treated equally.
