The Tempodrom today is the most versatile of all the Berlin locations for concerts and events with the Big Arena, the Small Arena, the Antehall, the Areaway and the Roof Terrace. Their repertoire is quite huge: comedians, international artists, rock and pop, musicals and circus events. Well-known shows there are for example Holiday on Ice, Lord of the Dance or the Roncalli Christmas Circus – especially popular with families with children.
Originally the Tempodrom was started in 1980 as a chapiteau on Potsdamer Platz. 2001 it moved to a permanent structure near Anhalter Bahnhof which was inaugurated with the awards ceremony of the European Film Award in 2001. The typical tent-like structure of the building, was designed by the well-known architects Gerkan, Marg and Partners who also build Berlin’s Hauptbahnhof.
