In the summer of 2019, the popular roof terrace of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) will once again be the venue for the “Wassermusik” series created in 2008. The theme of this year’s open air festival is: Black Atlantic Revisited. In 2004 the project Black Atlantic, which dealt with Paul Gilroy’s book “The Black Atlantic”, took place at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Fifteen years later, the HKW is revisiting the theme.
The focus of water music this year is therefore on the South Atlantic and its musical cultures, with concerts by Milton Nascimento, Angelique Kidjo and Gilberto Gil. As every year, the festival is accompanied by films, panel discussions and the water market.
The HKW (also affectionately called Pregnant Oyster) regularly presents music films, film documentaries and workshops, often accompanied by concerts. The concerts of the Wassermusik festival take place in good weather on the roof terrace of the HKW, in rain in the foyer.
