Britzer Mühle

Since 1865, one of Berlin's last two working windmills has been turning on Buckower Damm. Next to it stands the reconstructed miller's house with a restaurant and a beer garden for 400 people. If you prefer a down-to-earth marriage proposal over a high-gloss one, you'll hardly find a more suitable place in Neukölln.

Britzer Mill: Marriage Proposal in the Shadow of the Wings

Berlin still has exactly two windmills that actually mill, and one of them has stood on Buckower Damm since 1865. Twenty meters high, a listed building since 1955, and right next to it is the miller’s house, which was rebuilt in the eighties according to old designs and today houses the restaurant. Inside there are 200 seats with a lot of wood, outside a beer garden with 400 – and on cooler evenings, blankets are laid over the chairbacks.

The food here is cooked without attitude: beef roulade, schnitzel, miller’s pan, all in portions after which no one will be hungry anymore. Main courses range between 16 and 28 Euros. If you don’t want to propose in the evening, have breakfast in the beer garden when there’s still fog over the fields and hardly anyone is there except the sparrows.

The Evening with Music

Once a week, a band plays in the restaurant, and admission is free. This is a good setup for a proposal: there’s music playing, but there’s no stage you could accidentally end up on. However, a table should be reserved on these evenings. And if you have some time beforehand, take a few steps over to Britzer Garden, which starts right behind the parking lot.
