Popcorn with flavors like Barbecue smoked almond, malabar pepper sea salt or Earl Gray lime? No problem! In the first popcorn pastry shop “Knalle” in the Mühsamstraße in Berlin Friedrichshain you can buy all sorts of creatively flavored popcorn. The inventors Lucie Krautien and Andre Göbel are top cooks in Berlin’s gastronomy and most recently served as chief patissier at the First Floor restaurant and banquet chef at the Swissôtel Berlin before they fulfilled a dream and opened their small Café Zuckerstück in Prenzlauer Berg. In search of ever new extraordinary creations and recipe ideas, they developed the exquisite Knalle popcorn, which is now even professionally distributed.
The popcorn differs mainly in the production process and taste of the well-known cinema popcorn. For the production no flavor enhancers or dyes are used but only high-quality products. These products include French corn, which is baked in the oven, Belgian chocolate or malabar pepper, that also has its own aroma in addition to the spiciness. For the cooks it is important that they produce everything themselves. All sorts of the Knalle popcorn are caramelised, not matter whether a sweet or bitter variety is produced.
The Popcorn is so popular in the capital now, that there is not only a popcorn shop in Friedrichshain, but also a graphic designer who cares about the logo, brand and the whole appearance of Knalle popcorn. The Knalle popcorn is also available at eat berlin store in the Hackesche Höfe, the branches of the KOCHHAUS in Berlin or at retailers in Munich, Hamburg, Leipzig, Cologne and Potsdam.
